Top Lake District Wedding Venues

To be able to view these epic Lake District wedding photos at their best be sure to turn your mobile phone on it’s side!

The North Western Lake District area covers Muncaster Castle on the west coast stretching as far East as Keswick and the Borrowdale Valley and reaching as far north as Wigton.  This North West Corner is much quieter that the rest of the region although that doesn’t mean it has any less charm!  In fact, you can still find everything the Lake District is famous for including England’s highest mountain; Scafell Pike which stands at 3206ft and the deepest lake, Wastwater both in the remote valley of Wasdale.  Also within the area you can find the lakes of Ennerdale, Loweswater, Crummock water and Buttermere so there’s plenty of scope for those dramatic pictures.  If it’s quirky you’re after why not take all of your guests on the famous ‘Lal Ratty’ at Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway.

If you choose to visit the area there are plenty of things for your family to do while you explore wedding venues.  If you love gin the Lakes Distillery is fab, they also serve great food from their onsite brasserie.  For the beer drinkers Jennings Brewery in Cockermouth is a good bet. There are a good variety of walks for all levels, historical sites at Ravenglass and Maryport for the Romans and for the literary lovers amongst you, Cockermouth is the birthplace of William Wordsworth.

Buttermere Engagement Portraits

Claire and Ollie chose a beautiful Buttermere engagement photoshoot as the perfect place for them.  Giving their dog, Ruby, plenty of room to run, spash in the water and let off steam.  Having images of themselves in the Lake District was really important to Claire and Ollie as their chosen wedding venue was too far away for wedding day images.

The walking route around Buttermere just happens to be one of the most popular low level walks in the Lake District.  You can walk the entire way round with spectacular views the entire time.  Why not check out the iconic and much photographed ‘Lone Tree’? And admire one of Wainwright’s favourite fells – Haystacks.

Crummock Water is also stunning and a great place for an engagement or wedding portrait session.  There are waterfalls and shingle shores to walk along.  Beautiful rocky outcrops provide the perfect vantage points and will show off your wedding dress to perfection.  The beautiful Rannerdale Bluebells are gorgeous and are just a short walk from the road.

Ensuring your lake district wedding photographer has plenty of local knowledge is key.  There is lots to be said for choosing a photographer based in the lake district when considering your options.  These include knowledge of the best spots for your images, where to park and how busy the area is.

How else would you know, for example, that in May nesting birds mean that the area you had your heart set on is out of bounds or that the floods a few years ago took out the access bridge and the only way across the water is to wade?

Wedding Venues near Buttermere

There are always interesting views to be had around Buttermere and Crummock and if you’re getting married in Cockermouth or Lorton and have time in your wedding day this area is definitely worth a visit.  You’ll come away with images from one of the most famous views in the Lake District!  If you don’t have time on your wedding day itself how about getting your gladrags back on the following day for gorgeous images.

Loweswater, Crummock water and Buttermere are in the North Western Lakes and are in easy reach of the following venues:  New House Farm, Low Hall The Lakes, Hundith Hill, Wordsworth House, The Trout Hotel, and Cockermouth Town Hall if you’re looking for those beautiful lakeside photographs.

The Grange Hotel

You’d never have imagined such stunning weather for this beautiful Grange Hotel Wedding.  The super cool and trendy, Nic and Dan tied the knot on a glorious November day in Grange-Over-Sands, South Cumbria.  Just a stones throw from the magnificent Lake District fells.  The day was amazing with beautiful golden sunshine.  The sunset looking out across Morcambe Bay was as dreamy as the couple themselves.

Enjoy their photos and be inspired by Nic’s bohemian dress and lots of jewellery.  The ceremony and reception were styled with gorgeous flower arches, a hoop table plan,  and yummy cake.  In the evening, the moon booth made sure there were great photos of all their guests.

The stunning Grange Hotel has a selection of truly beautiful suites which are great for those all important getting ready shots on the morning of your wedding and relaxing in for your first night as a married couple.  There are gorgeous views across the bay to be had from many of the rooms and lots of flexibility for your wedding day.

Wedding Photographs at the Grange Hotel

As any wedding photographer will tell you ensuring your wedding venue has plenty of places for photos is key to getting the images you dream of.  And with a myriad of little romantic corners the Grange Hotel is the perfect place.   It’s elevated south-facing position ensures there is lots of light and the mature woodland provides a beautiful backdrop.

Close by, are the quaint little railway station, stunning ornamental gardens and wild beauty of the estuary with Morcambe Bay beyond.  All of which are great places to have your wedding portraits taken.  Nic and Dan particularly wanted golden hour images and so left their wedding breakfast to nip down to the bay for 5 minutes of portraits and were rewarded with the most gorgeous sunset with the moon clear in the sky.   For a more bohemian, off the beaten track or wild look why not travel a little further afield.  A short drive in the car ensures that you get the splendor of the Southern Lake District fells as your backdrop.

Cote How Venue Features

Within the heart of Wordsworth’s romantic landscapes sits the house. Across the property are five areas where you can tie the knot. Three of these are within the house. The Wordsworth Room is used for elopement weddings, where Caroline and Steve can act as witnesses for you. It’s also used for intimate gatherings of ten or less. For a larger party of up to fifty guests the elegant Fairfield Ceremony Room is the perfect choice when the weather is starting to get a little chilly. You can also chose to get married in the 16th century rustic barn itself or get married under the eaves whilst your guests sit outside in the sun. More intimate outdoor ceremonies can be held at the gazebo.

Photographing a Rustic Barn Wedding Cote How

Cote How is a photographers dream, right in the heart of the dramatic mountains that make up the Lake District.  This gives you the opportunity to get gorgeous atmospheric photos and make the best of the local landscape.  The shores of Rydal Water are just a short stroll across the meadow from Cote How with access to the river and the bridge across it along the way.

The grounds of Cote How are beautifully maintained and provide a great backdrop for your group portraits.  Caroline and Steve’s no car policy ensures that there will be no cars in the background.  This provides perfect unspoiled views from every angle.
